Life Currents – Poem

Oh life’s mighty river flow, such a fluid, winding path
From a days deep valley’s treacherous currents fought
to tarrying in mountain top pools of elation to bathe
Every moment savoured for this life’s tide is short

Joy is found at every step for through it all you are not alone
For the undercurrent that carries you through life’s flowing stream
Is infused with the One to whom you have always been known
Who governs, parts and arrests currents fighting your esteem

When stuck in the torrent of swirling eddies, such problems you can’t shift
Cease your fighting against the current as Divine hands take hold
Pulled from sinking plight on waves of adversity’s crest his hands doth lift
Inviting surrender of your doubt as in consuming love he will you enfold

No obstacle is destined to halt the path of the rivers course
But you who trust in almighty God, at whose word the waters bow
El Shaddai, Emmanuel, the true source of Invincible force
Will steer and protect you through channels that only he will allow

But the highest triumph is savoured at life’s river’s end
Beholding face to face you the One who carried you through
“Welcome home beloved, my companion, my friend
Know that whatever torrent life threw, it never separated me from you

“God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.””

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
