My Father’s Eyes (Poem)

(Author’s photo)
Arise my downcast gaze, look upwards into your Abba Father's face
Let his beholding eyes of love lift your weary head with touching grace
A longing gaze to melt and soften your hardened trial worn heart
Joy and gladness bids fear and dejection from my mind to depart

No word is uttered but the eyes alone betray the Father's gentle knowing
As you stare back, your heart undone, you feel the warmth of love's gaze growing
Set emblazoned as refined gold in fire, in my saviour's eyes awesome power lies therein
Yet never does his gaze fail to display abounding compassion and abiding peace within

"You are fully accepted in my sight child" those eyes seem to say
"For my finished work is done, so come child, in this safe space stay"
"You are fully known to me and my love for you will never turn away"
"So continue in my perfect peace and fix your eyes on me this day"
