The Two Rivers (Poem)

Two rivers meander and flow across the junctures of life’s path
Cascading concurrently or as one depending which way you look
For one is trial’s river, formidable it seems to cross
The other calm waters of peace found at your saviour’s brook.

Oh the thrashing torrent of trial’s waters run
and the current’s appearance so strong
Yet on the rock that is Christ’s unfailing love
Amidst these waters there is refuge to belong

For He is the Corner Stone steadfast and sure
A firm foundation upon which to firmly rest
Who lifts you up above the current’s swell
To safety’s space unmoved by the torrents test

A divine stepping stone on which to tread
At every step of trial’s crossing He’s there
and on the rock eternal’s shoulders I am borne
Led over valley’s river of life’s trial and care

Yet this same river’s flow is tamed depending on how it is seen
Amidst tribulation’s eddies as to your saviour turn
A beautiful sight unfolds as stilled the waters become
Bowed by Christ’s word, his presence abates the churn

For your Good Shepherd illuminates the way
To another stream to reside, there will he show
streams of tranquil stillness of abiding peace divine
where the ripple or rill of anguish does not flow

Behold there at transparent waters the unopposed delight
for perfectly loved and known as you are beholding Jesus’ gaze
Whose mercy and goodness pursue you always, everyday
The Prince of Peace has the last word on trial’s wind and waves
